disEruption (2021)
for String Trio
Commissioned by: Ars Moderna
Instrumentation: Violin, Viola, Violincello
Premiere: December 2022, Kulturscheune, Weyhe, Germany
Duration: 10 min.
The title holds three words in itself: disruption, erruption and diserruption and the piece shows processes of mutual change, destruction, distortion and collapse that is happening between the relation of the thematic materials. The first material is built out of two motives that are developing inversely throughout the whole composition. The first one, that is dominant at the beginning, is characterized with micro movements (quarter tones and micropolyphony) and a dynamic range from ppp to mp. The second motif, which is secondary at the beginning, but becomes dominant in the latter stages of the composition, is very aggressive, with quick upward gestures and ff dynamics. The second thematic material has a lamentoso character which starts with a melodic line in the violin and continues with a polyphonic texture. In the latter stages of the composition this thematic material becomes distorted and fragmented.
